Hornby British Railway Southern Rail Maunsell Coach Collection
The Maunsell coaches were a family of railway carriages designed by Richard Maunsell for the Southern Railway (SR) in the United Kingdom. These coaches incorporated the best features from the previous main companies’ designs (London and South Western Railway, London, Brighton and South Coast Railway, and South Eastern and Chatham Railway). They were intended to be the standard carriage design across SR lines. The first order was placed in 1925, resulting in over 1,200 Maunsell carriages. These coaches had wooden frames covered with steel sheeting, SR-built bogies, and various seating configurations.
