The BRAWA Exclusive Edition Class 216 diesel locomotive represents one of the German Federal Railways' successful V160 family main line diesel locomotives. Designed in 1956 as a single-engine diesel locomotive for passenger and freight services on non-electrified routes, the V160 series was constructed by Krupp, Henschel, Krauss-Maffei and Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz (KHD). Following the German Federal Railways' renumbering programme in 1968, the V160 was redesignated as Class 216.
